Position: Sales Rep / New Business Development
Department : Sales – Industrial and Commercial – Energy Efficiency / Lighting Retrofit Projects
Reports to: Director of Sales and Marketing
Position Overview This sales position will require the incumbent to call on medium to large size commercial and industrial customers. Prospects are contacted through a combination of cold calling (telephone) and/or canvassing (door-to-door). A significant database of un-called leads is provided to new hires for prospecting.
Essential Functions (% of Time Allocated)
Lead Development (80%)
- Prospect Pre-Qualification
- Determine if prospects match the desired lighting retrofit customer profile based on the hours of operation, size of facility, and types of lighting currently in use.
- Lead Generation
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a consistent incoming stream of prospective customers through a combination of intensive outbound calling and/or door-to-door sales
- Build value and credibility associated with the BlueStar brand name.
- Contact Management
- Gather and verify all necessary contact information of decision maker(s) (DM's) and enter it into BlueStar's proprietary contact management system.
- Talk with DM's to gain knowledge and understanding of their current lighting strategy.
- Credit and Pricing
- Gather and verify all necessary electric account information, desired product types, and contract terms required for BlueStar to quote a prospective customer.
Closing (20%)
- Proposal Presentation
- Present BlueStar's proposal for a lighting retrofit project and explain the difference between the prospects current lighting system and the energy efficient options presented by BlueStar.
- Close the prospect by explaining the financial impact of the current lighting system vs. the proposed BlueStar system.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- This position requires an extremely motivated person who is capable of handling rejection repeatedly to find a sale. The account manager must be sensitive to corporate needs, customer needs, and our public image.
- Good visual memory is necessary; candidate must have accurate vision, size perception, and color vision.
- Strong self-direction, having a results-oriented attitude and ability to manage multiple tasks is key.
- Considerable knowledge of commercial and industrial lighting systems is a huge plus.
- The ability and desire to learn sales psychology and closing techniques is a must.
- Effective oral and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must have at least one year of direct business sales experience, or proven sales track record.
2. Experience with a Lighting or Electrical Distributor, or in the field of Industrial Supply, is beneficial.
3. College degree preferred but not required.
Compensation Base salary will vary based on experience + commissions and benefits, including health insurance through BlueCross & BlueShield of Illinois and 401K program. First year income expected to be 70,000+ based on minimum performance standards.
